  1. ALF Med Tech. Initial Certification (6hr)
    • Class includes power point presentation, video, lecture, discussion and practice sessions, demonstrations of a medication cart and set up
    • Written exam (75% minimum passing grade)
    • Certificate of Completion is determined by class participation and 75% score on the accuracy of the written test
    • Do’s & Don’ts for assistance with medication
    • Best practices for residents who self-administer medication without assistance
    • Tips for promoting safe medication habits
  2. ALF Med Tech. Annual Re-Certification/update (4hr)
    • Class includes power point presentation, video, lecture, discussion and practice sessions, demonstrations of a medication cart and set up

  3. Alzheimer’s 1 (4hr) + Annual continuing ED.
    • Class includes DVD, lecture and discussion
    • Certificate of completion is determined by class attendance and participation
    • Alzheimer’s 1 will define the disease and all the different stages. This program will discuss ethical issues, family issues and the challenges of behavioral management in the resident with Alzheimer’s. Assistance with ADL’s is reviewed, suggestions for stress management of the caregiver and the resident’s environment is discussed as well as group and individual activities.
  4. Alzheimer’s 2 (4hr) + Annual continuing ED.
    • Class includes DVD, lecture and discussion
    • Certificate of completion is determined by class attendance and participation
    • Alzheimer’s 2 will have a greater focus for identifying problems, resources, drugs and different behavioral patterns. This program will discuss ethical issues, family issues and the challenges of behavioral management in the patient with Alzheimer’s disease. Assistance with ADL’s is reviewed, suggestions for stress management of the caregiver and the resident’s environment is discussed as well as group and individual activities.
  5. Residents Behavior & rights & Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) (3hr)
    • Class includes power point presentation, DVD, lecture and discussion
    • Certificate of completion is determined by class attendance and participation
    • (ADL’S) The student will have a better understanding of self-care problems and needs of the older people
    • (residents rights) Based on a typical resident’s bill of rights that emphasizes dignity, choice and self-determination, this program introduces and explains the rights of residents in a long-term care facility. Clinical vignettes help healthcare assistants apply new knowledge and an overview of specific responsibilities detail what is expected of all healthcare assistants to promote and protect the rights of residents.
  6. Safe Food Handling practices (1hr)
    • Class includes power point presentation, lecture and discussion
    • Certificate of completion is determined by class attendance and participation
    • The student will have a better understanding on how to present food poisoning and spread of contagious diseases by safe handling, preparing and storing food.
  7. Infection Control, Universal Precautions, & facility sanitation procedures (1hr)
  8. HIV/AIDS (required by DOH) (2hr)
    • Class includes DVD, power point presentation, lecture and discussion
    • Certificate of completion is determined by attendance and participation
    • The student will have a better understanding of the disease process, prevention and treatment
  9. APD 65 G-7 initial Medication Certification (6hr)
